Making a Difference Through Conversation Program
SBM DERİN VE İLERİ, in collaboration with People Dynamics Learning Group Inc., is pleased to introduce the “Making a Difference Through Conversation™” program for all managers whose performance is determined by their internal conversations, all support function employees who conduct result-oriented conversations with internal and external customers, team leaders who manage teams—in short, everyone who speaks.
This program is designed for organizations (managers, team leaders, sales teams) that want to develop the conversation skills required to succeed in the new C world.
The program was developed with the awareness that conversation skills have become a valuable capability for everyone in today’s business world. In this new world, in order to gain a conversational advantage, individuals need to raise their Conversational Intelligence™ far beyond levels that were sufficient in the past. By addressing the concept of Conversational Intelligence™, the program provides tools and processes to develop conversational capability across different conversational contexts.
Organizations approach us for the following reasons:
- To help their employees achieve the C-transformation,
- To increase the quality of conversations as a business process for achieving results,
- To support teams and groups in creating high-quality collaboration environments,
- To provide a practical and effective learning experience.
The Driving Force Behind the Making a Difference Through Conversation™ Program
The Big C Transformation
The face of leadership is changing. This change is the subject of much of what is written, discussed, and researched about the major trends shaping the business world, organizations, and leadership.
We experience this changing face of leadership firsthand through the leadership development programs, team coaching, leadership coaching, and skills coaching we deliver to organizations we work with in Türkiye and around the world. We are in the midst of a major cultural shift in the business world: a transformation from the old command-and-control style to a new, more collaborative way of working. We call this the C Transformation.
Organizations and leaders are often aware of this change. However, they struggle to fully understand the consequences this transformation will have for themselves and their organizations. Even when they do understand the outcomes, they find it challenging to develop the skills and capabilities required to be successful on the other side of the transformation.
We know that a way of working and leading that requires a high degree of collaboration is critically important for leaders, teams, and organizations that want to emerge stronger and more successful after the transformation. High-level collaboration also requires two core leadership capabilities:
- Effective conversation skills across many different situations, and
- The ability to create and sustain the social environment or climate that supports high-quality connection, collaboration, and conversations.
Although we all believe we know how to speak and have years of experience, we argue that leaders must increase their Conversational Intelligence™ to be more effective at work and in life. We use the term Conversational Intelligence to describe our ability to create maximum connection while conversing with individuals and groups. This capability includes reading and responding to what is happening both in the external world (work environment, cultural context, social environment, etc.) and the internal world (thoughts, emotions, mindset, etc.), and using this information optimally to create meaningful conversations that generate desired results.
Calls for Collaboration for Enhanced Conversational Intelligence™
Advanced collaboration—at the core of successful work and leadership—combined with the ability to communicate effectively across many different situations provides a clear advantage to leaders, teams, and organizations. Without advanced conversation skills, it is not possible to achieve the level of collaboration required for success in today’s business environment. Developing high-level conversation skills and becoming competent in conversations across different contexts offers leaders and teams a significant conversational advantage.
Our proposition is that the gap is not limited to “difficult conversations” or coaching conversations alone, but exists in our overall conversational capability. New ways of working and leading place demands beyond the naturally acquired level of our “conversational intelligence.” Therefore, leaders at all levels need to develop their conversational intelligence. This enables them to be more effective across a wide range of conversations and provides a true conversation advantage in today’s business world. Offering leaders and teams practical conversation tools and opportunities to develop communication skills helps them gain this critical advantage.
Positioning conversation as the most essential core skill for individual and organizational success, the Making a Difference Through Conversation program enables individuals to read and respond to what is happening both in the external world (work environment, cultural context, social environment, etc.) and the internal world (thoughts, emotions, mindset, etc.), and to use this information to create meaningful, constructive conversations that produce desired results. Based on the belief that Conversational Intelligence is developable, the program addresses the required high-quality conversation algorithms, skills, and mindset models through hands-on practice.
